Hurricane Harvey & Irma Disaster Relief
Dear MMNA Pariwar Members,
Our Chance to participate and make a Difference!
As all of you are aware, the recent onslaught of Hurricane Harvey, followed by Hurricane Irma, caused extensive rains, flooding and disaster in the Southern States. It certainly has resulted in major disruption of infrastructure, power, communication, transportation, basic amenities and the daily lives of the citizens, including several of the Maheshwari / Rajasthani families. The severity of the disaster is the worst of its kind in decades. The emergency migration of millions due to Hurricane Irma, the death toll of over 50 people due to Hurricane Harvey are all very disturbing. While the worst may be behind us, it will take a very long time and enormous efforts for normalcy to return. Several Government, Private, Voluntary and Charitable organizations have been working days & nights in the relief efforts.
Our community has always risen to the occasion at such times of crisis, and we should stand with the MMNA members and residents of the impacted areas in thoughts, words and actions. Thus, MMNA BOT and NEC team called for an emergency meeting and have decided to come forward and support the relief efforts.
Here are the highlights of our plans:
- MMNA will provide the seed funding of $5,000.00 and would also seek matching donations from its members from all over North America. MMNA will further match up to $5,000.00 in matching funds. (The total of MMNA funding will not exceed $10,000.00).
- MMNA will support the local needy Maheshwari families and Students who have been impacted by this. In addition, MMNA will also support the relief efforts for the broader community in the affected areas through its local chapter by engaging the youth volunteer groups in schools /colleges / other avenues.
- MMNA NEC team will prioritize the projects to be undertaken in collaboration with its local chapters and other like-minded organizations.
With this email, we appeal to you to donate generously to this noble cause of Hurricanes Harvey & Irma disaster relief and recovery.
